Located on Toronto Island, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is Canada’s ninth busiest airport.

In July of 2015, the airport reached a major milestone when it opened the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Pedestrian Tunnel, a 853-foot pedestrian tunnel connecting Toronto’s mainland to the airport.

We worked closely with Arup, the project’s engineer, to illuminate the tunnel using fixtures from Selux, Insight Lighting, VisioneeringLuminaire Lighting, Axis Lighting, LSI and Paramount and a WattStopper control system. ZAS Architects, PCL General Contractors and Plan Group Electrical were also main players in bringing the tunnel to fruition.

The Billy Bishop Airport Tunnel provides passengers with a fast, convenient and reliable way to access the airport. Prior to the opening of the tunnel, commuters had to travel to the airport by ferry. Now, they can walk through the underwater tunnel connecting them to the airport in less than six minutes.
