Food District at Square One

Located in Mississauga, Square One is Canada’s designated tourist destination for fashion, lifestyle, and entertainment. Managed by Oxford Properties Group, it’s one of the top ten malls in Canada, and the largest shopping centre in Ontario at 2.2 million square feet.

As part of an elevated food experience for tourists and locals, Square One approached Giannone Petricone Associates to design The Food District by 2019. This interactive food concept offers local, handmade, high-quality foods in a setting that’s inspired by both modern and vintage food emporiums. Stretching over 34,000 square feet, the lighting design was led by Hammerschlag & Joffe, while Salex was brought on to offer advice on how to implement the designer’s vision while keeping within budget.

To bring the design vision to life, TBR Architectural Lighting, a custom indoor and outdoor architectural lighting solutions division of Viscor, incorporated industrial Y and single pendants into The Food District design. Working closely with the design team, TBR Architectural Lighting finalized the mounting and customized the output of the fixtures to meet the required illumination levels.

To illuminate the perimeter of the concourse and entrance of the tenant areas, Liteline’s Teardrop Track Head in white was chosen, and Amerlux’s Hornet HP Horizontal LED in black was mounted on top of the millwork to provide a soft uplight to illuminate the open ceiling.
