Driven and inspired by the work of one of Canada’s preeminent authors and media pioneers, the newly opened Pierre Berton Heritage Centre is an engaging and interactive museum experience located in Kleinberg, Vaughan. Spanning over 3,600 square feet, this accessible, community-use facility aims to unite community members of all ages, and to celebrate the country’s history and cultural heritage. As such, it was only fitting that a considerate and complementary lighting design was integrated to help shine a light on Canada’s national story.
This heritage museum located in Greater Toronto Area, turned to Lynch + Comisso Architecture + Light and Salex Inc. to provide expert illumination that would enhance the visitors’ experiences. Selected for its high degree of design freedom, Axis Stencil, an ultra-thin LED pendant lighting system, used to create a unique beehive pattern for the roof of this architectural space.
For supplementary and accent lighting, a holistic and considered approach was taken; 25W LED Track Heads by LiteLine was used to enhance Pierre Berton’s featured work. The heritage site also features The Nova series of emergency lighting units and The Stella Unibody combo by Beghelli Canada. To enhance the building with latest technology, Dual Technology Wall Switch Sensors were featured across the centre.
These minimalistic fixtures serve to merge the building’s exclusive elements – wood ceilings, wood flooring and stained glass windows – together into a cohesive setting.
