Headquartered in Toronto, with offices across Canada, the U.S. and overseas, the TMX Group is a leading provider of financial, information and technology services for companies in the Canadian and international markets. As part of a corporate culture refresh, the company recently consolidated its three existing locations into a comprehensive head office located in the centre of Toronto’s Financial District. Combining state-of-the-art technology with innovative design, this new space embraces new ways of thinking and working, and explores how programming and lighting can contribute to an inviting and transparent culture.
Together with B+H Architects and Smith + Andersen, Salex transformed a number of TMX’s communal spaces – namely kitchen and lounge area, elevator lobbies and corridors, as well as the open office – with a forward-facing lighting design. ARTEMIDE Ledbar 48 Square decorative wall sconces were implemented in the kitchen and lounge area to achieve a modern, clean and linear appearance, while Axis Sculpt Recessed linear fixtures were used in the elevator lobbies to create continuous, illuminated patterns. Spanning across three walls, the ceiling and challenging angle joints, these complex patterns were supplemented with classic LED MINIGRID IN TRIMLESS SI downlights from Delta Lighting.
For the open offices, Lumenwerx POP pendants were chosen to complement the “chopsticks” arrangement of Axis Lighting TwinBEAM2 fixtures and to provide a circular accent in the interior. SGI LED FLEX-05-P-ULTRASL brightened the most challenging locations like curved edges, and Elite Lighting ESL-LED under-cabinet fixtures delivered an added touch of glare-free warm lighting.
To monitor, analyze and manage interior lighting spaces, the design team leveraged the flexibility of OSRAM’s award-winning Encelium Extend DALI system to adapt all lighting fixtures, even decorative, to the base building DALI control system. The final result is a transformation of the TMX office into a workspace fit for the future.
