The YMCA Guelph renovation redefines the space through a balance of playful design elements and purposeful lighting, creating an environment that supports both activity and connection. Working alongside Matter Architects and Smith + Andersen London, the project brings together thoughtful design and technical expertise.
Lighting played a key role in shaping the atmosphere, supporting both the energetic identity of the space and its everyday usability. Axis Beam 4 recessed fixtures were used throughout the project to provide clean, consistent general illumination. In the main activity room, these fixtures work in harmony with the colourful wood slat design, enhancing its rhythm and visual impact, while in other areas they deliver reliable, unobtrusive lighting that supports the overall functionality of the space.
The Lumenwerx Cava fixture creates a striking suspended architectural statement at the reception area, helping define the welcome zone while adding depth and dimension. In the main activity room, the Lumenwerx Elia introduces a fun and engaging element. The large illuminated ring fixture brings a sense of creativity and playfulness, enhancing the overall experience for users of all ages.
