Founded in 1964 by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton, Tim Hortons is Canada’s largest quick-serve fast food chain restaurant, and has been serving Canadians fresh coffee and baked goods for more than 50 years. With headquarters in Toronto, Tim Hortons has over 3,000 restaurants across North America and is expanding internationally as well. In January 2019, Tim Hortons moved their Toronto Head Office to a newer, modern and innovative 65,000 square foot space located at the historic Exchange Tower on 130 King St. West. This exciting change reflected Tim Hortons’ Canadian roots and celebrated the company’s brand and coffee culture.
Gensler, a global design and architecture firm, was responsible for the interior design, creating an office space that stayed true to the company’s work culture. Smith + Anderson engineers were brought on to consult on the lighting selections and Salex came on board to recommend appropriate lighting that would help enrich the interior design as well as daily employee and visitor experience.
Located on the old TSX trading floor, Gensler designed the two-level open concept office featuring collaborative meeting spaces, over 20 coffee and tea brewing stations, a new state-of-the-art kitchen, a large staff café, and an outdoor terrace.
With a tight turn around to ship all of the products, Salex supplied Lumenwerx’s VIA linear series to create clean lines of light in meeting rooms, while a playful random pendant arrangement paralleled the orderly arrangement of Meteor Lighting’s Atria 4 pendant cylinder to illuminate the reception area and enhance visitor experience. To compliment the interior design and décor, VISO Lighting’s more decorative Rhea LED, The Maggie and The Ring fixtures punctuated the reception, collaborative meeting spaces and staff café. Finally, OSRAM ENCELIUM® EXTEND’s Wireless Control Module and NOCOM’s Modular Wiring Systems were used to control lighting throughout the office space.
